Orbitz Joins Illinois Lt. Governor in Collecting Care Packages for Troops in Honor of Veterans Day

Donations Collected at Chicagoland LaSalle Bank Locations Donors Offered the Opportunity to Win Free Roundtrip Airfare from Orbitz

CHICAGO, IL (November 4, 2004) -- In an effort to support American forces stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan, Orbitz has enlisted the help of Illinois Lt. Governor Pat Quinn and LaSalle Bank to collect items for care packages that will be shipped to the brave men and women serving overseas. Chicagoans contributing to the care packages will have the opportunity to enter a sweepstakes to win one of 25 free roundtrip flights from Orbitz.

"This effort originated as an internal program at Orbitz when we began collecting items for our employees who had family members serving in the military overseas," said Jeffrey Katz, president and CEO of Orbitz. "The response was so positive that we decided to turn it into a citywide program in time for Veterans Day. And, as a leader in online travel, we thought that offering the opportunity for free trips would be a great incentive to get people engaged."

Donations will be accepted at any of the more than 125 LaSalle Bank locations throughout Chicagoland from November 8 through 20 (for branch locations, visit

From there, the Illinois branch of "Operation Support Our Troops," a military-assistance organization run by military families operating under guidelines issued by the Pentagon, will collect, package and ship the care packages. Items requested from the soldiers include:

-Canned Fruit/Fruit Cups
-Jerky/Beef Sticks
-Cheese & Crackers
-Granola Bars
-Cereal/Instant Oatmeal
-Hard Candy and Chewing Gum
-Baby Wipes -Personal Notes with of Appreciation for the Soldiers

-Pre-sweetened Drink Mixes
-Trail Mix and Salty Snacks
-Disposable Cameras
-Canned Tuna and Meat
-Shaving Cream
-Hand Sanitizer

After making a donation, consumers will be given information about how to register online to win one of 25 free roundtrip airline tickets from Orbitz. Registration will be available from Monday, November 8 through Monday, November 22.
