Orbitz Price Assurance® Refunds Hit $10 Million Mark

Unique Industry-Leading Program Issues More Than 170,000 Price Assurance Automatic Cash Refunds in Three Years

CHICAGO, Aug. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Orbitz (http://www.orbitz.com) today announced that its one-of-a-kind Price Assurance cash refund program has hit the $10 million mark.  Orbitz Price Assurance rewards Orbitz customers with a guaranteed automatic cash refund if another Orbitz customer later books the same flight or prepaid hotel room for less.   Since the program's inception in June 2008, more than 170,000 Price Assurance refund checks totaling $10 Million in refunds have been issued to customers, confirming the Price Assurance promise that Orbitz customers will always get the lowest Orbitz price.

Pamela Bailey of Los Angeles, CA received the Price Assurance refund check that broke the $10 million mark.  "While I had heard about Price Assurance before booking my trip, I didn't realize Orbitz really meant it or that I could benefit.  But then I got a check for $350 which helped pay for the vacation," said Bailey.  "Going forward I'll be booking all my travel on Orbitz!"  Bailey booked five airline tickets from Los Angeles to Orlando on Orbitz.  She received an automatic $350 Price Assurance refund check after another Orbitz customer booked the same itinerary for less.

"In the 3 years since launch, Orbitz Price Assurance has automatically delivered 170,000 refund checks to customers, for a total of $10 Million in refunds. Orbitz Price Assurance is unmatched in the travel industry and is central to our commitment to give customers the information, tools and resources to make smart decisions and shop with confidence when booking travel," said Chris Orton, president of Orbitz.com.  "Orbitz Price Assurance provides peace of mind to consumers who want to lock in low prices by booking early while also being protected in case prices come down later on.  And the best thing is that it's completely automatic – our technology immediately starts tracking your itinerary to see if another Orbitz customer books the same trip for less."

Here's how Orbitz Price Assurance works:  book any air fare or pre-paid hotel on Orbitz; if another Orbitz customer subsequently books the same flight or hotel stay at a lower rate, Orbitz automatically sends a refund check for the difference.

In conjunction with the $10 million Price Assurance milestone, Orbitz is launching both a Facebook sweepstakes that will give away a VIP travel package to Las Vegas, as well as a new Price Assurance television advertisement.   Las Vegas is the top Price Assurance hotel payout city, and the sweepstakes jackpot includes a trip for four, with airfare, a suite at Caesars Palace, premium tickets to a Celine Dion concert and more.
