Orbitz.com Air Offering Receives Top Honors in New Keynote Study of U.S. Travel Web Sites

Consumers Say Orbitz Air Product is most "Helpful" and "Reliable" within Customer Experience Portion of the Study

CHICAGO, April 11, 2011/PRNewswire/ -- Orbitz (www.orbitz.com) today announced that its air travel booking product ranked number one for best overall Technical Quality among 10 leading U.S. travel websites, according to a new study released by Keynote Competitive Research, the industry analysis group of Keynote Systems.

"Orbitz continues to innovate the shopping and booking experience within air travel with industry firsts such as the Matrix Display and Orbitz Price Assurance," said Sam Fulton, Senior Vice President, Retail, Orbitz Worldwide.  "Being named the best air booking website in a category that spotlights the quality of our technology by a trusted third-party like Keynote validates that the Orbitz air product continues to perform at the highest levels and offers a design and functionality that gives travelers a sense of security and ease when shopping for and booking airline tickets."

Orbitz ranked number one for Overall Technical Quality in Keynote's 'Online Excellence' study, which focused on leading airline and online travel agent websites with air booking capabilities. The rankings were based on thousands of Web transactions monitored using measurement computers located in 12 cities across the U.S.  Keynote measured a typical transaction of searching for and reserving a flight online. 6,000 total measurements were executed for each site, for a total of 60,000 total measurements.

Orbitz was also thought of as "helpful" and "reliable" more than any other travel website in the study, according to actual user feedback gathered during the Customer Experience portion of the study.

"Based on thousands of measurements taken by Keynote's measurement computers over the course of the study, Orbitz.com displayed at a very high level of technical quality, an extremely valuable attribute in the highly competitive online air travel industry," said Christopher Musto, general manager of Keynote's competitive research group.

Orbitz.com, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, launched in 2001 with the invention of the Matrix Display which made it quick and easy for consumers to comparison shop for airfares online and revolutionized the way the travel industry displayed fares.

Orbitz also led the industry with the launch of Price Assurance in June of 2008 which guarantees that customers never overpay on Orbitz.  With Price Assurance, if another Orbitz customer books the same flight or prepaid hotel for less, we'll send you a check for the difference – automatically.  Price Assurance is the only program of its kind in the industry.  Since its inception, Price Assurance has rewarded over $9MM in refund checks to Orbitz customers.
