Watch the Ball Drop - Not Your Savings - With New Year's Advice From CheapTickets.com

Suburban and Satellite City Hotels Put New Year's Travelers Near the Nation's Biggest Celebrations But Away from the Big City Price Tags

CHICAGO, Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- A holiday message from CheapTickets.com: Don't let the high price of New Year's Eve accommodations make you "drop the ball" on ringing in 2008 in high style. The online travel agency that knows "the less you pay, the better it feels(SM)," identified the 10 most popular domestic New Year's Eve destinations for 2007 based on hotel bookings, then researched satellite city and suburban hotels close to the action to help travelers on a budget avoid being priced out of the big countdown.

"New Year's Eve is the one night of the year when it's almost impossible not to find a party," said Marita Hudson Thomas of CheapTickets' Cheap Squad(SM). "Staying just outside the 'hot zone' gives budget travelers the advantage of choice -- with proximity to some of the world's most spectacular celebrations as well as lower-key, but equally festive, affairs requiring far less hassle and usually far less cash."

For example, staying off-strip in Las Vegas (the top travel destination for the holiday based on CheapTickets' bookings) saves the New Year's Eve travelers almost 20% on accommodations on average, while the difference between New Orleans and nearby Metairie is even more impressive, at more than 60% on average. CheapTickets' list of top U.S. destinations for New Year's Eve and suggested alternative locations is based on advance hotel bookings, and includes:

CHEAPTICKETS' STAFF PICKS FOR THE BEST SPOTS TO RING IN 2008:

LAS VEGAS/ON- AND OFF-STRIP -- Off-the-Strip means anything but "away from the action" on New Year's Eve. This year, Las Vegas introduces "America's Party," turning the entire city into one huge party scene. Live entertainment on Freemont Street will be matched on the Strip with a fireworks extravaganza, featuring a spectacular sound and lights show and live music by the Bangles and Doobie Brothers.

NEW YORK CITY/BROOKLYN -- Televised worldwide, the Times Square ball drop is the most iconic New Year's celebration of all. Yet just over the Brooklyn Bridge, Prospect Park holds its own with the borough's largest party -- a midnight fireworks show at Grand Army Plaza. And the Bridge itself is the site of one of the most intriguing alternative fetes, with the 12th Annual Brooklyn Bridge Walk into the New Year, where participants are treated to hot chocolate and a doughnut along with views of five separate fireworks displays.

CHICAGO/ROSEMONT -- Downtown, the big 2007 sendoff takes place at Buckingham Fountain, featuring a magnificent music and light display courtesy of the City of Chicago, as well as fireworks. In nearby Rosemont, just minutes from O'Hare International Airport, alternatives abound, from a New Year's Eve "Smoke Out" for cigar aficionados at Morton's to one of the region's biggest bashes -- the New Year's Eve Rock 'N' Roll Ball at the Regency Hyatt O'Hare.

SOUTH BEACH/MIAMI -- Steeped in swank, the South Beach night scene is at its celebrity-studded best on New Year's Eve. This is the place to see and be seen, but it comes at a price, with spectacular fireworks over the ocean the sole exception to an otherwise bank-breaking night on the town. But Miami is much more than South Beach, and other options range from fireworks and free entertainment at Bayfront Park to the also free Big Orange Festival, complete with 35-foot orange ball drop and DJ-driven partying just steps from the myriad watering holes of the Bayshore mall.

ANAHEIM/BUENA PARK -- For families, there's nothing like New Year's Eve at Disneyland (where, for one night only, the rides stay open until 2 a.m.). Unless, of course, you stay in nearby Buena Park, home to a few world-class family attractions of its own, perfect for ringing in the New Year at any age.
