Nearly 70 Percent of Americans Plan to Make a Long Weekend out of the July 4th Holiday, According to Orbitz Survey

Orbitz Fourth of July Promotion Gives Travelers an Additional 15% Off Hotels over the Holiday Weekend

 CHICAGO, June 24, 2013 - Americans are taking advantage of the Fourth of July falling on a Thursday this year with 66 percent of travelers planning to take the following Friday off to make a long weekend out of the holiday.1 Airports will also be busier with an 11 percent increase in air travelers over the previous year, according to new data released in the Orbitz July 4th Insider Index.2

The top Fourth of July destinations span from sea to shining sea. Highlights from the Orbitz July 4th Insider Index include:

·         Boston (-11 percent) and Denver (-16 percent) are experiencing a drop in year-over-year hotel rates, pointing to great July 4th hotel deals

·         Orlando is showing affordable hotels rates ($93 per night) and airfare ($319), ensuring that families purchasing multiple tickets and rooms will be able to enjoy a group getaway without breaking the bank

·         Airfare remains steady year-over-year with the biggest decreases noted for Washington, D.C. (-8 percent) and New York City (-3 percent)

·         Overall hotel rates are down to the top ten cities, with seven of the ten offering rates less than $200 per night for the holiday weekend
