Online Video Series Showcases Top Ski Destination for Adventure-Seeking Winter Travelers
CHICAGO, July 22, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Leading online travel company Orbitz Worldwide (NYSE:OWW) has partnered with the Jackson Hole Travel and Tourism Board to launch "Orbitz Originals: Jackson Hole Winter +," a nine-part online video series that is hosted by award-winning travel expert Richard Bangs and is available for viewing at Orbitz.com/jacksonhole. Supported by hotel discounts of up to 20 percent off and substantial flight and hotel package savings, this tenth installment of the "Orbitz Originals" series once again harnesses the power of online video to inspire travelers and increase bookings to this exciting winter destination.
Online video can be a particularly effective tool, as studies indicate it's a common source of inspiration for consumers during the travel planning and research process. A recent report reveals that nearly two-thirds of travelers watch videos to learn more prior to choosing a destination or booking activities for their trip once they have settled on where to go.1 "Orbitz Originals: Jackson Hole Winter +" showcases Wyoming's buzzed-about gem as Bangs explores the Teton Mountains and their beautiful surroundings where people come from all over the world to enjoy the powder-coated ski slopes, wildlife and authentic cowboy culture.
Select highlights from the series include:
"Where to Find Cowboy Powder" – Meet professional big mountain freeskier and Freeskiing World Tour champion Jess McMillan as she shares her perspective on her hometown, a place she says is "the best training grounds for freeskiing in the world."
"The American Serengeti" – Jackson Hole is known as the American Serengeti in large part because it is home to a 25,000-acre National Elk Refuge, home to to 10,000 wintering elk. Get an up close and personal look at these majestic half-ton animals.
"Ranch to Table" – Learn about the ranchers in Jackson Hole who raise high-quality cattle nearby and provide a source for area chefs as they create food that is fresh, sustainable and local.
"Snowmobile Adventures" – Hop on some of the best snowmobiling trails in the country and end up at the natural 104-degree Granite Hot Springs. Equal parts adventure and relaxation.
The campaign will have two phases: a July launch in partnership with Brand USA, which focuses on international markets (where winter travel begins to be booked as far as six months out), and a September rollout domestically.
"Jackson Hole is truly a unique winter destination as it not only offers world class skiing, snowmobiling, wildlife viewing and adventure, but is also the gateway to two of the most spectacular national parks in North America: Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Park," said Kate Sollitt, executive director of the Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Board.
To date, "Orbitz Originals" videos highlighting Cancun, the Cayman Islands, Qatar Airways, Vermont, Western Ireland, New York, Northern Ireland, Bradenton, Florida and Puerto Rico have been viewed over 1.2 million times by travelers seeking inspiration for future trips. Bookings to those destinations have experienced double-digit growth over the life of each campaign.
"Working closely with Richard, who is a renowned travel expert, we want every 'Orbitz Originals' series to capture what its really like to visit the destination and inspire travelers to plan a trip," said Josh Winkler, Orbitz Worldwide vice president of partner marketing. "With Jackson Hole Winter +, you get a real sense of the location and its culture, and Richard provides a unique viewpoint and smart recommendations travelers can take advantage of when booking their getaway."
