Sun Microsystems Recognizes Orbitz for Innovative Use of Java Technology
CHICAGO, IL -- (June 29, 2004) - Orbitz (NASDAQ: ORBZ), a leading travel website, has been recognized for its innovative use of Java technology with the Duke's Choice Award, presented by Sun Microsystems at the 2004 JavaOne Developer Conference in San Francisco. The Duke's Choice Awards, now in their second year, recognize the best-of-the-best in the world of Java technology development.
Orbitz was chosen by the Java Leadership Team at Sun Microsystems, including Scott McNealy, chairman and CEO of Sun, and James Gosling, the inventor of Java technology.
Orbitz implemented its travel booking engine using Java's Jini network technology architecture. Orbitz uses Jini technology to create a high volume, high availability, robust booking engine architecture that processes more tickets online than any other booking engine on the Web.
