Survey Reveals the Majority of Vacationers Are Willing to Sacrifice to Save

CHICAGO, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- How far are travelers really willing to go to save or get a free trip? According to a recent survey fielded by, three-quarters of vacationers said they would gladly sacrifice their seats to receive a free airline ticket.

Applauding the savvy saving habits of travelers and proving there's no shame in thriftiness, CheapTickets is offering the ultimate challenge: submit travel stories, tips and money-saving tricks that Show Us Your Cheap, for a chance to win a vacation for four and to be featured in an upcoming advertising campaign!

The Show Us Your Cheap travel contest will run from March 10 - March 31, 2008. Four grand prize winners may be featured in CheapTickets' print and radio advertising and online at In addition, they may also win an "Ultimate Vacation Package" -- a five-day, four-night getaway for four, including air, hotel and car rental, to the winners' destination of choice anywhere in the continental United States.

To enter, participants simply visit and follow the instructions to upload a photograph of themselves, family or friends on vacation, along with a personal story (500 words or less) that shows how they save money when they travel and how those savings enhanced their overall travel experience.(1)

Survey Reveals Budget-Conscious Travelers' Money-Saving Habits(2)

A recent online survey conducted by CheapTickets portends well for the Show Us Your Cheap promotion:

  -- More than half of respondents reported they might be willing to submit
     their own story and photos in order to win a free vacation for four.

  -- As many as 80% of travelers are inclined to cut costs by bringing their
     own food/snacks along, with 39% "very likely" to do so.

  -- A cheap traveler need not be a stingy one: 57% report they generally
     tip at least the standard 15% while 39% say they tip more than 15%,
     even at a restaurant they visit on vacation and will most likely never
     visit again.
