Planning a Business Trip? Corporate Travelers' Getting the Help They Need from Online Travel Agencies and Hotels

More than 75% surveyed find most helpful business tools and amenities at their destination, and by booking online

Chicago, IL – September 17, 2007 – With a steadily growing need to conduct business on-the-go and at all hours, suppliers and travel providers everywhere are trying to make life easier for the business traveler. And no one is doing it better than online travel agencies and hotels, say those travelers responding to this month's Orbitz for Business corporate traveler survey.

Forty percent of those surveyed feel hotels offer the most business amenities to corporate travelers, making it easier to conduct business during their stay. Many hoteliers have answered the call with amenities such as in-room Internet access, Wi-Fi-wired lobbies, convenient full-service conference facilities and more.

A strong second to hoteliers, for those planning and booking their trip, online travel agencies (OTAs) are catering to business travelers, as 36% say OTAs have done the best job of providing business-specific resources to its customers. Airlines were next at 16%, followed by rental car companies (4%) and executive car services (4%).

"Any business traveler will tell you the importance of being able to stay connected, and to work whenever and wherever they need to," said Dean Sivley, COO and general manager, Orbitz Worldwide's Corporate Travel Solutions Group. "By providing resources like OrbitzTLC alerts, unused e-ticket tracking and many other tools, our customers are better informed and can be more productive on the road."

With nearly 25% of all flights over the first seven months of 2007 delayed , more than 40% of those surveyed say they've been stuck in the airport up to three hours. The longest delay travelers have encountered this year are:

  • 0-1 hour - 18%
  • 1-3 hours - 23%
  • 3-5 hours - 0%
  • 5-7 hours - 3%
  • more than 7 hours - 3%
  • haven't had any delays this year - 42%

When taking a break from the work day, if even for a moment, people watching is a favorite pastime for many business and leisure travelers. And airports are the #1 spot for passing the time by watching passers by. Business travelers' surveyed say the best place for people watching is:

  • Airports – 55%
  • Trade shows/conferences – 17%
  • Public transportation – 13%
  • Hotel bar – 10%
  • Hotel pool or fitness center – 6%

The Orbitz for Business survey is a subset of Orbitz' Take 5 initiative, which was launched in 2006 in celebration of the company's five-year anniversary. The Take 5 Corporate Traveler poll was conducted online using a MarketTools panel of 529 adults ages 18-65 who are business travelers.
